INITIALISE at the European Congress of Endocrinology 2026
9–12 May 2026 | Prague, Czech Republic
At the congress, Prof. Matej Orešič from the University of Turku, the coordinator of the INITIALISE project, presented INITIALISE-related research on the impact of the maternal chemical exposome on breastmilk composition and the infant gut microbiome.
The research draws on metabolomics and lipidomics approaches to investigate how maternal exposure to environmental chemicals may influence breastmilk composition and the early development of the infant gut microbiome. These early-life interactions may play an important role in shaping immune and metabolic development and influencing health later in life.
Presenting this work at ECE 2026 provided an opportunity to share INITIALISE research with the wider endocrinology community and contribute to scientific discussions on environmental exposures, maternal and infant health, and early-life disease mechanisms.
The congress also offered an important platform for exchanging ideas, receiving feedback and strengthening connections with researchers working across endocrinology and related scientific fields.

Congratulations to Prof. Matej Orešič on presenting this research at ECE 2026.
