INITIALISE at SSSD Annual Meeting 2025
In August 21st to 23rd 2025, the Scandinavian Society for the Study of Diabetes (SSSD) 59th Annual Meeting was held in Oslo, Norway. The gathering featuring scientific sessions on mechanisms and pathophysiology of diabetes, novel management strategies, and clinical research across the age spectrum.
The INITIALISE project was represented at the meeting by Professor Jonny Ludvigsson (Linköping University). During the scientific sessions on 22 August 2025, Professor Ludvigsson presented Abstract from the project’s recent publication:
“The inflammatory path toward type 1 diabetes begins during pregnancy.”
His presentation examined early inflammatory processes associated with the development of type 1 diabetes, highlighting evidence that disease-related immune activity may begin during the prenatal stage. These findings contribute to INITIALISE’s objective of understanding early-life mechanisms underlying immune-mediated disease development.
In addition to his scientific presentation, Professor Ludvigsson contributed to the meeting’s leadership by serving as Chair for the Swedish Child Diabetes Foundation’s Johnny Ludvigsson Prize to a Young Scientist lecture.
